Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Center (Vancouver Costal Health)
803 W 12th Street, Vancouver
The Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre (JRSFHC) is an eight-storey mental health and addictions facility located on the Vancouver General Hospital campus. It replaces outdated facilities such as the former VGH Willow Chest Centre (circa 1948) and Health Centre (circa 1943). The new 11,000 square meter facility provides a unique, healing environment for patients suffering from schizophrenia, depression, mood disorders and other acute mental health conditions.
The LEED Gold-rated design includes rooftop gardens for patient gardening. Its therapeutic treatment areas have plenty of natural light to create a bright and welcoming environment. All rooms will be private and have en-suite bathrooms, and every floor has access to outdoors, quiet space for reading and meditating. The centre, which also has dedicated family and visitor space, will easily be able to expand in future, with built-in capacity for two additional floors.
Total capital cost of this PPP (Public-Private Partnership) project is $82 million, with the provincial government contributing $57 million. The VGH & UBC Hospital Foundation has committed $25 million to the new centre, including $12 million from Joseph and Rosalie Segal.
