    UBC – Student Union Building

6138 Student Union Blvd, Vancouver, BC

The University of British Columbia’s newest centrepiece at the Vancouver-Point Grey campus. Centred around an impressive, airy atrium with a bird’s nest-shaped space and lounge-like amenity hovering high over the expansive concourse spaces. Wood was used extensively throughout the building. Incorporating elements of the Living Building Challenge. The Building was conceived as a means of shaping flows through space – flows of peoples, of materials, ecologies, energies…and ideas.

Atlas was involved early in the design of this project, providing Pre-Engineering and Analysis support to this signature project’s design team. Close coordination between Atlas and the Architect and Structural engineering teams was critical to ensure a safe and functional system was provided while not compromising the aesthetic views of the large internal atriums known as “The Nest”.

During the construction portion of this project, it was important to follow the tight schedule and coordinate with other subtrades; including Glu-Lam, Glazing and Roofing contractors. After the successful completion of the supply and installation of this complicated project, Atlas provided training to the client and UCB on the systems function and maintenance.

    Epcor Building

    EPCOR Tower, Station Lands

    Edmonton, Alberta

Located at one of the downtown’s main gateway entries, this 30 storey building is one of the tallest and most distinctive structures in the provincial capital. The first in a series of four high rises to be built on a 9.2 acre site on a land area that stretches four blocks from east to west. The overall development of the site, now known as Station Lands will eventually provide more than 2,500,000 square feet of office, retail and residential living space.

Atlas was involved very early, providing Pre-Engineering and Analysis support to the design team on Epcor Tower. Close co-ordination between the Architect and Atlas was critical to ensure a safe and functional system was provided, while not impacting the sight lines of the building and its future tenants.

Working in partnership with Ledcor during the construction portion of this project, Atlas followed a tight schedule for design supply and installation of equipment including Anchorage Connectors, Custom Monorail, Flush Patio Deck Davit Bases, Mobile Davit arms and sockets for various roof levels using Permanent Powered Modular Platform.
After successful completion of all supply and install work on this complicated project, Atlas provided training to the client on its function and maintenance.

    Manulife

Manulife Place, built in 1983, was the tallest tower in Edmonton, Alberta at 146 meters, until the completion of Epcor Tower in 2011. With an all glass façade, Manulife Place had a Building Maintenance Unit (BMU) installed during construction that had reached the end of its lifespan and needed to be replaced.

ATLAS, in partnership with Manntech, designed, supplied, installed and certified a BMU onto the existing perimeter track, complete with new mullion guides to fit into the existing mullion  tracks for platform stabilization. ATLAS worked closely with the building owner and operators to ensure that the new BMU satisfied their maintenance needs.

ATLAS managed the Co-ordination work between several subcontractors which was essential to ensure that the project went smoothly. From dismantle and disposal of the existing BMU, to hoisting, assembly, and full operational testing of the new Manntech BMU
