    Station Square Site #4

Station Square, at 35 storeys, with retail at ground level, is the fourth of a five-phase project on a 12-acre site with five landmark towers each with phenomenal panoramic views. Station Square rises before you as a sleek concrete and glass tower inspired by iconic skyscrapers in other metropolitan cities.

With some portions of the tower at over 300 feet tall, Atlas designed a Davit and Socket system for these locations, enabling window cleaning or exterior building maintenance from a suspended Platform or “Swing Stage”.

On green roof areas at the podium levels, Atlas provided specific equipment to enable safe landscape maintenance of these green areas.

    The Spot

    2888 Cambie Street, Vancouver

Developed by Shato Holdings, which is famed of its ownership of White Spot, this 8-story concrete commercial/residential building is on the site of an old White Spot restaurant on the Cambie and W 12th Street. It is just steps above Vancouver City Hall and has 160 condo units that range from 1 to 3 bed rooms.

The unique design of this building presented its own challenges with tapered cantilevers and large roof top decks making access some areas of the building a challenge. Atlas proposed a combination of single point anchors, horizontal life lines and underhung rope guides to provide safe access to the building façade.

    2. Unscheduled Exterior Building Maintenance

Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Campus

    500 5th Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109, USA

Funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and designed by Seattle-based NBBJ, this $500 million campus has three six-story office buildings and will be the new home for the Foundation with total capacity of 2,100 staff. Adjacent to Seattle downtown landmark Space Needle, these buildings sit on 12 acres ex-parking lot and will be completed into 2 phases, 900,000 sf for the first two buildings and 400,000 sf for the third building respectively.

The project adopted lots of sustainable features including large living roofs, rainwater storage, thermal energy storage, smart light and ventilation, native and non-invasive landscapes etc. This campus is the world largest LEED Platinum non-profit building, and is planned to last 100 years instead of the typical 20 to 30 year timeline envisioned for typical office space projects.

    Surrey, BC

The SkyBridge is a cable-stayed bridge in Metro Vancouver. Built between 1987 and 1989, it spans the Fraser River and connects New Westminster with Surrey, and carries only the Skytrain (no automobiles). The bridge has two 123-metre tall towers and carries trains 45 metres above the Fraser River and valley. The main span is 340 metres and the total length is 616 metres, making it the longest cable-supported transit-only bridge in the world.

The SkyBridge has two tracks to let the TransLink Skytrain to pass either way on the bridge. A third set of rails in the middle is used by maintenance crews to truck equipment back and forth on the bridge.

This is a retrofit project of which 2 custom A-Frame were installed inside the concrete tower and 2 spiral anchors to be attached to I beam over openings to lower level for Confined Spaces Rescue Equipment. The equipment is being installed in the Sky Train Bridge connecting New West to Surrey. Work was completed during revenue hours but care had to be taken when moving to different location while the system was in operation.
