    Tsawwassen Springs Phase III

    5011 Springs Boulevard, Delta, BC

This is the 3rd phase of a master-planned community – Tsawwassen Spring, a total 490 housing units, from condos to single-family, developed by Shato Holding. Designed by Wayne Fougere and constructed by Talisman Homes, the project is one of the largest communities in the city of Delta, which includes a new 18-hole golf course, Pat Quinn’s Restaurant & Bar, and the high-end Springs Ballroom.

The project is known for some high-profile investors: Pat Quinn, Canada’s 2002 Olympic Gold Medal Hockey Coach; Bruce Allen, music industry leader; and world famous musician, Michael Bublé.

With the increasing demand to use all available floor space on projects including the ability to have roof top decks. The fall protection systems are becoming more complicated. Atlas worked closely with the contractor to design a system that works harmoniously with owner occupied roof decks on this project.

    Milk Tanker Truck Facility

    201 Vernon Street, Enderby, BC

This 13,000 sf 2-storeys building is a home of a new 4-bay washing facility for milk transportation trucks in Enderby, BC. Up to 49 staff will be working in the facility.

Enderby is just one of the many towns in the Kamloops-Okanagan Region where dairy production remains one of the most important businesses for local economy. The milk produced at the farm is bought by the B.C. Milk Board and processed in the Lower Mainland and distributed around the province. About 85% of milk produced by the 96 dairy farms in the region goes out of the area while rest stays here with small processors.

Atlas worked closely with the structural engineer to design a custom horizontal life line that worked with the design of the building. The building manufacturer had to add structural reinforcing on the steel structure so the horizontal life line could be installed level and not follow the slope of the roof. The line was installed to allow the worker to safely navigate the top of the tanker trailer while performing his duties.

    1. Transportation and Loading Facilities

Bugaboos Ski Lodge – Canadian Mountain Holidays (CMH)

Bugaboo Forest Service Road, Briscoe, BC

Located in the Bugaboo Province Park and about half way between Banff and Revelstoke, the Bugaboos are a mountain range in the Purcell Mountain of eastern BC. The 650million to 1 billion year old granite spires of the group are a popular mountaineering destination. The Bugaboos is also a very popular heli-ski location that gets great annual snowfall.
The 33-room Bugaboo Lodge, constructed in 1967, is near the base of the glacier on the eastern boundary of the park. Heli-Skii and heli-hiking are conducted from the lodge into the park. The lodge is rich in history and a modern tribute to the sport of mountaineering.

Atlas worked closely with client to engineer a unique fall protection system and structural reinforcing to perform roof top maintenance year round. Wood frame structure with multiple additions using different construction details from one to the next. The major challenges were Bugaboo’s remote location (60 kilometre in the rocky mountain range), and majority of work was completed in confined spaces. Multiple mobilizations required to review building, investigate structure at proposed anchor locations and install system.

    6333 Silver Avenue, Burnaby, BC

One of the newest towers to go up in the thriving Metrotown area, The Silver is a prime example of the range of ATLAS’ abilities. We have incorporated a davit system into The Silver to facilitate scheduled and unscheduled building maintenance operations. Rooftop maintenance operations at the lower podium levels has been accomplished with a combination of horizontal lifelines at the perimeter gardens and single point pedestal anchors on the green roofs.

    Queens Park Arena

220 First Street, New Westminster, BC

ATLAS was retained by City of New Westminster to propose a fall protection solution to facilitate rooftop maintenance operation of Queen Park Arena during roof replacement. The roof of Arena has been framed with wooden structures.

ATLAS’s scope of work included designing, manufacturing, installation and certification of a complete fall Protection System, In addition, ATLAS also provided structural engineering service as Engineer of Record, for the reinforcement of existing wooden members to support Fall Protection system – HLL above. The project was constructed in the Spring of 2014.

    Main Street Skytrain Station

    1339 Main Street, Vancouver, BC

Main Street-Science World Station is the oldest station on Translink’s rapid transit system. The Station had long been recognized as a priority for upgrades. ATLAS has installed a multitude of pedestal and wall mounted anchorages in combination with horizontal lifelines to allow for workers to safely work and carry out these upgrades on the Station. Working with the general contractor and following Translink’s and ATLAS’ safety procedures, all the work was required to be done in the middle of the night when the trains are not running. Just another example of ATLAS’ ability to get the work done safely and properly, regardless of circumstance.

    The Core Simons

    304, 8th Avenue. SW, Calgary

The nine-storey Lancaster Building, where the CORE Shopping Center is located, was built in 1919 and linked TD Square and the Calgary Eaton Centre. At one time, it was home to Eaton’s as well as the offices of R.B. Bennett, the Prime Minister of Canada (1930-1935). It was Calgary’s first skyscraper.

Just after a massive, multi-million dollar redevelopment and renovation few years ago, the building is now being reconfigured its low 4 floors to accommodate The La Maison Simon, a Québec-based fashion retailer. With another anchor tenant Harry Rosen on the other end of the building, the CORE will be a jewel of a building right in the inner-city.

Jointly developed by Tsawwassen First Nation and Ivanhoe Cambridge, the newly opened Tsawwassen Mills Mall includes 1.2 million sq. ft. of retail space with a unique mix of 200 premium fashion brands, factory outlets, restaurants and first-to-market retailers, as well as a 1,100-seat food hall.

Atlas worked closely with Ledcor Construction to provide the fall protection system on portions of this massive Mall development.
Cooperation by Atlas with several subtrades was crucial to ensure that the anchors not only functioned as necessary, but that there was no visual impact on the architectural design of the building. Special attention was paid to design of a custom lag screw solution that would satisfy the requirements of the project structural engineer as well as Atlas’s on Staff P.Eng.
